EMusic Review of December’s Moon:
Ron Oswanski, December’s Moon: Oswanski takes turns on Hammond B3 organ and accordion, and leads a set of all-stars on a set of lyrical modern jazz tunes. The sounds between the “Hammond tunes” and the “accordion tunes” are different, but not nearly enough to break a sense of album cohesion. Accordion adds a welcome rustic presence to the affair, which balances nicely with B3′s aeronautics. Personnel like John Abercrombie and Clarence Penn are sure to make people stop and notice, but I was most struck by the contributions of saxophonist Tim Ries, especially his interplay with accordion parts.
